Star Shelter Spreads Love

Following the success of the first Star Givers Programme, an initiative that encourages the Star Shelter residents to engage in volunteer work as part of their journey towards empowerment and healing, the residents have once again spread love to others in celebration of Mother’s Day. On 6 May 2017, Star Shelter residents, together with some Star Shelter volunteers and members of Inner Wheel Club of Singapore (East) spent a day of laughter, fun, and created wonderful memories with the elderly from the Society for the Aged Sick (SAS).

The Star Shelter residents assisted the elderly with an art activity. Together, they created flowers made of paper and other art materials. These beautiful flowers were given to the elderly as a gift and a reminder of their time together. The fun continued as the elderly were serenaded with delightful song performances by the Star Shelter residents and the group from the Inner Wheel Club of Singapore (East). All eyes were glued to the dance performance of Star Shelter residents and staff as they bumped to the groove of Wake Me Up by Wham!

The activity was capped off with a scrumptious lunch sponsored by Inner Wheel Club of Singapore (East) and the distribution of goodie bags prepared by the Star Shelter staff and residents. “We really enjoyed spending time with the elderly. We feel for them. I wish the visit was longer! I felt sad as we left SAS”, one of the Star Shelter residents shared. Without a doubt, our residents enjoyed sharing joy with others and are looking forward to the next outreach of Star Givers program.
