The ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organisations (ACWO) held their 2nd Meeting of the 19th ACWO Board of Directors (2018-2020) virtually on 11th August 2020. Dr June Goh, Chairperson of ACWO, presided over the meeting and warmly welcomed the ACWO Board of Directors and delegates from the 10 ASEAN Member States – National Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodian Women for Peace and Development, Kongres Wanita Indonesia, Lao Women’s Union, National Council of Women’s Organisations of Malaysia, Myanmar Women’s Affairs Federation, National Council of Women of the Philippines, National Council of Women of Thailand, Vietnam Women’s Union, and Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations.
It was a fruitful meeting where the ACWO BOD discussed plans such as the ACWO Masterclass and their goal to work together to bring the ACWO Vision for 2025 to reality. It was also heartening to hear the initiatives and projects the various national councils have rolled out in their respective countries in response to the COVID-19 outbreak to protect and help their people physically, financially and emotionally during this unprecedented time.
SCWO holds the current ACWO Presidency from 2019 to 2020 and the Presidency will be handed over to Brunei later in the year.
We look forward to working together with our ACWO sisters to further empower women and girls in ASEAN!
