The visit started off with an introduction to SCWO’s initiatives (BoardAgender, Women’s Register, Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame) and services (Star Shelter, Maintenance Support Central). Minister Masagos was updated on SCWO’s future plans in line with the action plans of the White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development released in March 2022. The discussion continued into a conversation on SCWO’s work and its impact on the community. Board members also pitched in on their experiences of working with women in the community and suggested ways the government can work with SCWO and other NGOs on how it can be enhanced and advanced.

Minister Masagos was also led on a tour of SCWO and Star Shelter –  presenting the exhibit displays of some of Singapore’s trailblazing women around the centre, as well as the many programmes and amenities catered for our residents.

“I was happy to meet members of the 22nd Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) Board this week. Organisations like SCWO play an important role in advancing women’s development in Singapore. They provide support, protection and uplift girls and women through their multi-service drop-in centre and women’s crisis shelter.

SCWO also played a key role in the Conversations and White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development last year, which was unanimously endorsed by Parliament in April this year.
Thank you, SCWO, for your continued partnership, and we look forward to joining hands further to advance women’s development in Singapore.”

SCWO looks forward to discovering more opportunities for collaboration with government agencies and relevant community partners in 2023.
