New2U Thrift Shop,  Volunteering

Over A Cuppa

There is something about a cup of coffee or tea that fosters connection and fuels conversations between people. When someone says “Let’s grab a cuppa”, it also means “Let us connect and share thoughts and ideas.” – This is exactly what took place in SCWO when the current New2U Chairperson, Ms Joanna Portilla, met with the New2U volunteers on 29 August 2016.

The ladies who also came in their reds and whites to celebrate Singapore’s National Day, had an afternoon of great company and dynamic dialogue with Joanna about their experience in New2U. During the meet-up, the volunteers were presented with several plans on how to make the New2U Thrift Shop a better place.

As the New2U volunteers are only at SCWO during their scheduled days, it is not common for them to meet the others that are scheduled on the other days of the week. This then gave them and opportunity to meet, interact and to discuss and come up with solutions to common challenges they face managing the shop.

“So nice to meet the volunteers from other days…I liked the idea and feeling I came away with, working as a group. Such a nice bunch of caring energetic ladies, with some great stories. Please pass on my sincere thanks to everyone for organizing the get together, and especially to Joanna. [I] look forward to some positive energy and more meetings in the future”, Debbie Halton from the Wednesday group shared.

We are looking forward to the next time we can sit down with these amazing dedicated ladies for another cup of tea, company and good conversation.
