MSC Talk: Understanding PPO & POHA

The aim of this MSC Talk is to offer valuable insights into the application of Personal Protection Order (PPO) and Protection from harassment Act (POHA). Our main speaker for this event is Mr. Clement Yap, who serves as Of Counsel within the Family and Divorce Practice Group at Harry Elias Partnership. He will provide a comprehensive understanding of PPO and POHA.

Subsequently, a group of students from SMU Law School will be delivering an infographic presentation outlining the step-by-step process of POHA application.

To conclude the talk, there will be an opportunity for attendees to engage in a Q&A session.

Mr Clement Yap is an Of Counsel in the Family and Divorce Practice Group. He specialises in contested matrimonial litigation regarding custody/care & control, relocation, division of matrimonial assets, maintenance, and conflicts of law. He has acted as lead counsel in the Family Justice Court, Supreme Court and Syariah Court. Mr Yap is also in charge of adoption matters in the Family and Divorce Practice Group.  In addition to his practice, Mr Yap holds the concurrent appointment of Adjunct(a-junkt) Lecturer at the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Law. He designs and teaches the Specialised Topics in Family Law module.

From 2018 to 2022, Mr Yap held the appointment of Instructor for the Legal Analysis and Communication Module at NUS Faculty of Law. He also co-authored the commentary for the Family Justice Act 2014 for LexisNexis’ Annotated Laws of Singapore series.
