SCWO Community of Practice (COP) — Members Exclusive: What They Don’t Tell You About Non-Profit Boards

On 23 April 2026, SCWO welcomed members to an intimate and thought-provoking Community of Practice session, led by Immediate Past President Ms Junie Foo. Titled What They Don’t Tell You About Non-Profit Boards, the session brought together women leaders from across our member organisations for an evening of candid dialogue and shared reflection.
Moving beyond surface-level understanding, the session created space for honest conversations on what board service truly entails. Through facilitated discussion and real-world scenarios, participants engaged deeply with the complexities of governance, leadership dynamics, and the weight of responsibility that comes with stewarding organisations and the communities they serve.
The session was highly interactive, with members exchanging perspectives, asking difficult questions, and reflecting on their own leadership journeys. There was a strong sense of openness in the room, one where experiences could be shared frankly, and where differing viewpoints enriched the conversation rather than constrained it.
What stood out was not just the content of the discussion, but the collective willingness to engage with the nuances — the grey areas, the judgement calls, and the realities that are often left unspoken. It was a reminder that leadership at this level is as much about discernment and integrity as it is about expertise.
SCWO’s Community of Practice continues to serve as a dedicated platform for members to learn from experienced leaders, connect as peers, and engage in meaningful conversations that strengthen leadership across our network.
This session marked a strong and promising start, and we look forward to welcoming our members to future sessions as we continue building a community of leaders who lead with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
