Project Awesome

Project Awesome is the educational outreach arm of the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF). The SWHF was launched in 2014 by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations to recognise and celebrate the achievements and contributions of Singapore’s most outstanding women.

These inspiring stories were compiled into a children-and-youth-friendly book titled Awesome Women of Singapore. Through Project Awesome, a range of programmes and services are offered to advocate and share the legacies of these Awesome Women with the younger generation.

Many of the women faced obstacles as they chased their dreams, but they persisted and made those dreams come true. Their stories will inspire young Singaporeans to challenge whatever limits they may face, to dare to dream, and to want to make their dreams a reality.

We bring to children and youths the amazing stories of the Awesome Women of Singapore – the pioneering women who broke through boundaries and shattered glass ceilings. These are women who helped to shape Singapore, and they are inspirational role models for young Singaporeans.

The Awesome Aim

To get every child in Singapore to dream big, aim high, chart their own path, and live their lives at the fullest potential.

Review: Reflections of Grade 3 students, St. Joseph’s Institution International

“Hedwig Anuar has stood out for me the best because I like to read interesting books like The House on Silat Road, Dork Diaries and more. Her values shone brightly especially diligence, caring and kindness. She showed her kindness by going around and helping housewives and her act of diligence comes from staying on track and making mobile buses now known as the MOLLY bus. She made lots of libraries and showed the importance of reading and women rights. -Elise”

“I loved the story of Yip Pin Xiu because she showed a lot of perseverance in her journey because even though she was physically disabled she did persevere through it all. People might have criticised her but she did not let that stop her. -Sara”

Review: Mrs Gladys Hoy, CHIJ Secondary

“The chosen personalities provided insights into [my students’] lives and revealed what meant most to them. This gave me a much-valued opportunity to hear from my students and understand what motivates them, what they are struggling with and what 'makes them tick'.

After the work exposure programme, my students asked if they could continue volunteering with SCWO after the WEP and even for the next year, a testament that the programme was successful in offering a meaningful and sustainable partnership that enriches the learning experience for students.”

Review: Ms Nur Aishaina Yanti, Senior Specialist @ Big Heart Student Care

“The programme was well-liked by both students and staff. It was interesting and engaging, which got the students to learn something out of the programme 😊 Thank you for piloting with Bendemeer & big yes to getting more centres on board the programme.”

Review: Mdm Marsani, Exhibition Visitor @ Ang Mo Kio Public Library

“I love the exhibition and make it a point to visit it every day when I'm at Ang Mo Kio Public Library. I especially found Thung Syn Neo inspiring, after reading about how she spearheaded the establishment of social work and family service centres in Singapore. This resonated deeply with me as my daughter is currently pursuing a career in the social work sector.”
