SCWO was proud to be the Singapore representative at the ASEAN Women’s Business Conference held on 20th – 21st June 2019 at the JW Marriott Bangkok Hotel, Thailand. Organised by the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN) Thailand, the theme of the conference was “Globalization 4.0 and Beyond: Advancing Women Economic Empowerment Through Action and Impact”. Singapore was represented by SCWO President Dr June Goh, and Assistant Honourary Treasurer Irene Boey.
Consisting of panels, workshops and company visits, the ASEAN Women’s Business Conference was packed with useful discussions and interesting ideas. The aim of the conference was to encourage the connecting, sharing, and exchanging of knowledge and experience among prominent women entrepreneurs, CEOs, leaders and experts in the ASEAN region. At the heart of the discussion was the emphasis on digitalisation of businesses and the greater utilisation of digital tools – cutting across the region. Hot topics like big data and sustainability were discussed. Underscoring that was the broad aim of promoting economic empowerment for women and recognising the inspiring achievements and contributions of ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs. The conference was rounded off with the AWEN Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner.
The AWEN Award celebrates the accomplishments of extraordinary women from micro, small, medium and large enterprises from each ASEAN Member State, who through their commitment, vision, and leadership, have made remarkable impact in their field and in society. These outstanding women are living examples of how innovative businesses, no matter how big or small, can make a significant difference and contribution to society and the economy as a whole. The award was bestowed to awardees by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati of Thailand.
Congratulations to the Singaporean awardees on this great honour – Bernadette Giam from Creative Eateries Group, Irene Boey from Integral Solutions Pte Ltd and Rachel Wong from Gabkotech Innovations Pte Ltd!
For most of the conference, the atmosphere in the room was immense – all these incredible women from diverse experiences and different backgrounds, coming together to share their experiences and ideas, and to find ways to support and collaborate – proving that women are key players in this new era of Globalisation 4.0.
We thank our hosts, AWEN Thailand, for their incredible warmth and wonderful hospitality, and we look forward to exciting plans ahead for AWEN. It was an unforgettable experience!
