SCWO 42nd AGM and Announcement Of The 22nd Executive Board For 2022 – 2024

The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) held its 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 25 June 2022, at SCWO Centre.

It was heartwarming to see the happy smiling faces of our members, who gathered physically for the AGM for the first time since 2019. Ms. Junie Foo delivered the President’s Address, highlighting SCWO’s activities and initiatives for 2021, including our active role in the year-long “Conversations on Singapore Women’s Development”.

Junie also spoke about SCWO presenting our report to the Prime Minister at the closing session of “Conversations on Singapore Women’s Development”, That was a significant moment for SCWO. At the session, the Prime Minister announced that he supports one of our recommendations to dedicate a public space to honour and celebrate women.

Junie said, “This space, a garden, is right in the heart of the City at Dhoby Ghaut Green. We are thrilled that our proposal was accepted and that discussions have started. Moving forward, we want to involve many women to share their ideas and dreams for Women’s Garden!”

As there were no objections to the annual reports or the past AGM minutes, the meeting was adjourned smoothly and successfully soon after.

The 22nd Executive Board, elected at this AGM, will be serving for the next two years, from 2022 to 2024.

Ms Junie Foo, the President of the previous term, was unopposed and will begin her second term as President of the SCWO. There were a total of 15 nominees for 11 board positions. The newly elected board comprises women leaders from SCWO’s member organisations with diverse interests and focus. They all have the shared vision to empower, uplift and support our women and girls. They bring with them a wealth of experience working with the communities, as well as their own professional expertise in various economic and non-economic sectors.

“I look forward to working with my new board on the 25 Action Plans laid out in the White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development. Together with the new Board and the Management of SCWO, we will continue to engage our member organisations on women’s issues to work towards SCWO’s ideals of “Equal Space. Equal Voice, Equal Worth” for all women and girls,” said President Junie Foo.
