Cat D, Second Place: “The Face Behind Vanda Miss Joaquim by Neh’la Amrozia Mohamed Basir
Agnes Joaquim cultivated the unique flower, now dubbed “Vanda Miss Joaquim” decades ago. Many doubted that it was she who had created it but finally she proved that it was truly she who had cultivated the flower. When she travels to the future, she sees that she is a symbol of innovation and identity and culture; she sees herself in a stamp. Simple, but always present, the colourful flowers behind her shows the women she has inspired to experiment with botany. The book shows how her efforts have paid off - her story and many others are finally told.
