Cat B, Second Place: “Carrying the Song Forward” by Hu Kai'En Jamie
This art piece was inspired by Joanna Wong. In 2085, the traditional Chinese Opera scene in Singapore is robust and vibrant, with many young people choosing it as a viable career pathway, something that Joanna Wong has worked to bring to life. There are also schools which study traditional Chinese Opera as an art form, with new styles being introduced into the culture. Through my artwork, I want to show people the vibrance of Joanna's life, and also touch on the hope of Singapore continuing the cultural legacy of Chinese Opera, and bring forth a new generation of artisans.
