In my community at Yale-NUS, a fully residential liberal arts college, most of us are privileged enough to own many items, many of which are easily discarded as life goes on. During the periods when members of the community move out of college (namely final year students and international students) we see a lot of discarded items that are still in almost perfect condition. These items range from furniture to electronics to clothes and books. They say shopping is a sport – and we couldn’t agree more. The very same values that will take you far on the track- competitiveness, endurance, discipline – will serve you well in this arena too. This similarity was most evident at our New2U Biannual Bazaar that took place on Saturday 25th May 2019. The queue started at 7 am in the morning – by the time 10 am rolled around, we had a sizable crowd eagerly waiting. At 10 am sharp when the gates opened, the crowd rushed in.
