| We Have Been Very Blessed |
|
As Christmas draws near, we can't help but feel nostalgic all over again. We walk down streets of lights put up on Orchard road and never fail to find it fascinating, despite it being a yearly affair. And every year that we stroll along that same street, we always find something new to "wow" about. Likewise for SCWO, every year is different, and there is always something to "wow" about. And many of these wouldn't have happened, if not for our faithful volunteers.
We've been blessed with volunteers who came week after week to put in their best, for both the New2U Thrift Shop and IT Hub, and others who were always ready to assist wherever and whenever necessary. To sincerely thank these amazing volunteers, a Volunteer Appreciation Party was organised on Saturday, 10th December. More than 70 volunteers came together for an afternoon of good food, good friendship and laughter. Some lucky ones even walked away winners of our Lucky Draw! We knew that a good time was had by all, by the wide smiles, thunderous claps, hoorays and big "thank-yous", and this put smiles on all our faces, and got us all fuzzy inside.
In the midst of all these, volunteers from Waggener Edstrom presented Star Shelter with a cheque of $2000, which they had so graciously raised. This group of volunteers come in weekly to conduct English classes for the shelter residents and also art classes for the children. We are so grateful for their support and generosity.
One of our volunteers mentioned that, "It was fun last year and even more so this year. The energy of this event was just so positive, we should bottle it up and release it when we have challenging moments." With that, SCWO would like to raise a toast to all volunteers out there. We hope you love being here as much as we love having you and thank you all so much for being with us these past years. We look forward to many more years to come...
