Singapore Heart Foundation
Singapore Heart Foundation (SHF), is formerly known as the Singapore National Heart Association (SNHA), is a non-profit charitable organization at the forefront of the battle against heart disease in Singapore. SHF is a member of World Heart Federation and had strong ties with other heart foundations in the Asia Pacific region.
Our Vision is to be a leading heart health movement in the region and a household name in Singapore through educating and motivating the public, assisting those affected and promoting and supporting community-based research to better understand the landscape of heart disease in Singapore.Dr Jovina See
Dr Jovina See is a Senior Consultant eye surgeon with sub-specialist training in glaucoma, cataract and Lasik. She recently left the National University Hospital where she was the Head of the Glaucoma Services at the Eye Surgery Centre, to work at the Shinagawa Lasik Centre. She graduated from the University of Cambridge with a distinction in surgery, and then went on to train in Ophthalmology in Singapore. She completed her glaucoma fellowship at the Dalhousie Eye Care Centre in Halifax, Canada. She has special interests in closed and open angle glaucoma, and in the imaging and early detection of glaucoma progression. She specializes in performing laser and surgery for glaucoma, cataract and Lasik. Dr See has won the Young Investigator’s Award at the Singapore National Joint Research Meeting in Ophthalmology as well as the Canadian Ophthalmology Society/Coherent-AMT Award for Excellence in Research and the Stephen Drance Award. She has also been awarded various research grants both in Singapore and Canada. In addition, she has published numerous articles in journals and has contributed book chapters in various textbooks of Ophthalmology.
Dr Lena Goh
Dr Lena Goh is a full timed Sensory Consultant for Biosystemes, France, specializing in providing market leader FIZZ sensory software to the worlds’ largest food manufacturers, food ingredients and flavour houses for Asia, since 2004 as well as a housewife 24/7.
Her PhD path has indeed made her a very independent, constantly seeking to strive for the best, strong analytical skills to systematically approach and solve problems in other fields as well as Food Science and Technology. During her PhD pursue, she have published quite a number of papers on Nutraceuticals and antioxidant properties for Ginkgo biloba for journals as well as for conferences. In addition she has also attended and presented in numerous conferences locally as well as internationally. She obtained her PhD in 2004.
Concurrently she is volunteering her time in Breastfeeding Mothers’ Support Group Singapore (a nonprofitable organisation) as a Vice-president to help other mums out there whom believe in what she believes - Breastfeeding is the best.
She is happily married and mother of one lovely Forty-two month old son, currently still breastfeeding.Ms Sherlyn Quek
Sherlyn Quek is the Senior Nutritionist and Trainer of The Nutrition Place, an education and training center focusing on the science of nutrition and the art of food. The Nutrition Place is a division of Food & Nutrition Specialists – the leading nutrition consultancy company
established in Singapore since 1989.
With over 10 years of working experience in the field of public health nutrition, health promotion and nutrition education, Sherlyn has headed the Community Nutrition section of the Department of Nutrition, Ministry of Health and spearheaded National Nutrition programmes, namely The Healthier Restaurant Program and The School Tuckshop Program.
She has also worked as a Lecturer of Nutrition at The Temasek Polytechnic. During the course of her career, Sherlyn has provided scientific advice and consultations and education services to health professionals, the media and the general public.
On a personal level, Sherlyn has been actively involved with the Singapore Nutrition and
Dietetic Association (SNDA) and is presently the co-secretary for the organising committee and secretary for the scientific committee for the 11th Asian Congress of Nutrition in 2011.
Over the last 7 years, she has volunteered her services by implementing and leading a
Maternal and Childhood Nutrition Program in Laos and Cambodia under the Singapore
International Foundation’s Singapore Volunteers Overseas (SVO) Program and Temasek
Polytechnic’s Overseas Students’ Internship Program (OSIP).
Sherlyn received her Bachelor’s degree, second upper class honours, from the University of
Surrey, United Kingdom and helps arrest Singapore’s falling population by raising three young children.
Dr Lisa Wong
Dr Lisa Wong sub-specialises in gynaecological cancers. She is the president of the SCCPS (Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology) and is actively involved in cervical cancer detection and prevention. She is an experienced laparoscopic surgeon and is trained to use robotic surgery techniques for gynaecological conditions.
Dr Wong now practises at the Mt Elizabeth Medical Centre after spending 12 years in the public service. She is a visiting consultant at the Singapore General Hospital where she trains younger surgeons in advanced gynaecological surgery.
Dr Chua Yang
Dr. Chua Yang graduated from the National University of Singapore. She is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, MRCOG (UK), and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS). She also holds a graduate diploma in acupuncture.
Dr Chua Yang is the director and senior obstetrician and gynaecologist at A Clinic For Women.
She has just completed two terms as president of the Menopause Research Society of Singapore. She is the medical advisor of “Woman to Woman” Menopause Support Group and currently sits on the council of the Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society of Singapore. She is an active member of the Association of Women Doctors (Singapore) and Osteoporosis Society of Singapore.
Dr Chua is a frequent speaker at CME programs and public forums. She has worked with private organizations as well as Health Promotion Board, Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Foundation. She is on the editorial board of magazines like Motherhood and Prime and frequently contributes articles for these magazines. She is also a columnist in the recently launched Health No.1 Magazine.
Her passion in providing medical care for under-served women has brought her to different cultures and communities. She continues to volunteer her time and energy for women in different parts of the world, including Niger, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ladakh, Bangalore, and parts of Indonesia.
Dr Sheila Loh
Dr Sheila Loh is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Reproductive Medicine Specialist. Her special interest is in infertility and assisted reproductive techniques. She is the Clinical Director of Raffles Fertility Centre, which provides a comprehensive range of fertility services including fertility investigations, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, ovulation induction, superovulation and intrauterine insemination, in-vitro fertilisation, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, embryo and gamete cryopreservation. She is an accredited IVF specialist with the MOH.
Dr Loh is a Council member of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is a member of the Advisory Board for Accreditation and Licensing of Assisted Reproduction Programme, Ministry of Health, Singapore.
Dr Chia Su-Ynn
Dr Chia Su-Ynn graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore, and completed her internal medicine residency at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). She obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom, and completed her Endocrinology Fellowship at the Department of Endocrinology, SGH. During her research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, USA, she conducted research on blood markers for the diagnosis and management of thyroid cancer, for which she was awarded the Merlin Bumpus Young Researcher Award by the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Dr Chia has wide ranging interests particularly in thyroid disease and diabetes. She is the current chairman of the SGH Thyroid Group, a multidisciplinary association of physicians with an interest in the care of patients with thyroid cancer. She is the only endocrinologist outside of the United States so far to receive the specialist credential Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) from the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE). This rigorous credential is only awarded to endocrinologists who have satisfied a high standard for performing thyroid and neck ultrasounds, as well as ultrasound-guided biopsies of thyroid nodules. Dr Chia also has a great interest in managing diabetes, and strongly believes in empowering both physician and patient in combating this growing problem. To this end, she has given numerous educational talks on diabetes to the medical community, both internationally and locally. Besides this, Dr Chia also manages osteoporosis, calcium disorders, obesity, polycystic ovarian disease, lipid disorders, pituitary and adrenal disorders and other hormonal evaluations. She is the incumbent honorary secretary of the Endocrine & Metabolic Society of Singapore and the Chapter of Endocrinologists, Academy of Medicine. She is an active member of The Endocrine Society (USA) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE).
Dr Vivien Yap
Vivien Yap is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist. She used to be a partner in a well-known law firm in Singapore before re-training in the U.K. to become a psychologist. Vivien currently works part-time in the Singapore General Hospital where she is part of the Eating Disorders team and where she sees patients with a variety of psychological issues. Vivien also has her own private practice as a therapist at Turning the Tide Pte Ltd, a company that she set up. Vivien sees patients with issues such as anxiety, phobias, depression, trauma, eating disorders among others and she uses both Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy.
Dr Shelwyn Tay
Shelwyn Tay is Clinical Psychologist with the Centre for Effective Living. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997, and went on to complete the Master of Clinical Psychology degree at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, in 2001. She has experience working with a range of populations in both clinical and research settings. For the last 8 years, her work at the Centre for Effective Living has included included general psychological and psycho-educational assessment, cognitive-behaviour therapy for anxiety and depression, behaviour therapy for children, counselling adults with psychiatric illness and assisting parents with child management skills.
