Free Bone Scan by Ultrasound

Conducted by Sanofi-aventis
1.30pm – 4.00pm
Training Room 2

What is Heel Bone Ultrasound?
The device, CubaClinical, is a bone ultrasound sonometer and it measures the bone mineral density and microstructure of the bone based on ultrasound technology giving you the status of your bone health and fracture risk information. It measures your heel (calcaneum) bone to predict your fracture risk especially on the spine and hips. Heel measurement is used as the bone on the heel is very similar in composition to the hip bone and also it is accessible. Predicting the hip bone has the most clinical relevance as it causes greater mortality and morbidity than any other types of fractures. It does not emit radiation and is small and portable.

How is it conducted?
You will be asked to remove the shoe on the left leg. Meanwhile, the registered nurse will verify your name and date of birth. Some gel will be applied to your foot and you will be asked to put your foot into a machine for 30 seconds. As you remove the gel and put on your shoe, the nurse will generate the report. Those who has been detected to have a low score should see their own doctor for further management.
