VALERIE NG
Valerie took up painting seriously in 2002 after attending the Alternative Foundation in Fine Art at The Slade Summer School, The Slade School of Fine Art, University College of London, UK.
Her medium is mostly oil or acrylic on canvas with an abstract expressionist approach. Her works are created as a result of her explorations in colour, light, depth, form and texture, as well as inspired by the natural elements, hues and shapes of the environment. She strives for a quiet balance between a certain quietude on the surface and the energy in the action of painting. Having a keen interest in paper and craft, her art objects also include artist books, papier-mache and collage pieces.
Her works have been exhibited at the Singapore Art Museum as well as the National Art Gallery, Malaysia. She has held several solo exhibitions including at the Wetterling Teo Gallery, as well as group exhibitions at instinc and Jendela Gallery at the Esplanade. Her works have also been auctioned at the Larasati Auctions in 2006 and 2007.
She won First Prize in the Abstract medium category, United Overseas Bank (UOB) Painting of the Year 2004 Competition as well as Highly-Commended awards in 2006. Her paintings can be found in corporate and private collections in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Mexico, Sweden and Germany.
A Malaysian based in Singapore, she was a resident artist at instinc, an artist-run space in 2006. Currently working independently, she is open to new collaborations or gallery representation.
