NAMIKO CHAN TAKAHASHI

Namiko Chan is a Japanese artist based in Singapore.  She studied in New York and received her Bachelor in Law from NUS, Singapore in 1997 after teaching art at Tanglin Secondary School and Chung Cheng Branch High School.  She has won several local awards and grants including the UOB Painting of the Year Award Grand Prize in 2006, a National Arts Council Project Grant in 2007, and more recently a National Arts Council Arts Professional Development Grant in 2008.  She has also worked in the Ministry of Education’s Creative Arts Programme in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as a workshop leader in the dance programme.

 

She is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the International Guild of Realism.  Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Singapore since 1993 and recent shows include ‘home’, the Inaugural NUS Alumni art show at NUS Alumni House 2009, ‘Lace’ – a group exhibition at Fost Gallery 2008, and in The Best of UOB at the Singapoe Art Museum in 2007.  In addition, she was active in New Tork from 2002 to 2000 exhibiting in several shows there withi the Art Students League of New York.

 

Her work has been aquired internationally and is in the following collections: the Office of the President of the Republic of Singapore; collection of Keep Watch acquired by Mr Koh Seow Chuan, Chairman of Singapore Art Museum; the Dean’s office, Faculty of Law, NUS; as well as in private collections in New York, London, Australia, China and Singapore.

 

She has been active in promoting women’s and other social issues through her sales in the Christie’s UN Development Fund for Women Charity auction and Media Corp/Action for Aids Charity auction in 2004.
