MÓnica Castillo

The artist was born in Mexico City in 1961. In 1978, she studied engraving and drawing at the Scuola Germanica di Roma, in Italy. A year later, she studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste de Sttutgart in Germany, where she participated in collective shows from 1984 to 1985.

 

She has exhibited in the Bienales of Havana and Peru as well as paraticipating in Configura II at Erfurt, Alemania and "Brooklyn!" at the Palm Beach Museum for Contemporary Art. She was a lecturer at the Painting Academy of La Esmeralda from 1994 to 1999.

 

She has participated as a visiting artist in the following programs: Visiting Artists Program, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Montclaire University N.J.; the San Antonio Museum of Art: and the Pratt Institute in N.Y. She represented Mexico at the mural project for the International Terminal of O'Hare Airport in Chicago.

 

From 1997 to1999, her self portrait show “Yo es otro” was exhibited in several Latin American museums including Museo Sofía Imber in Caracas, Venezuela, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Santiago, Chile and the Museo de Arte Moderno of Bogotá, Colombia.
